Most pirated goods of high value and small size do not get tossed into merchant stalls or shop counters at midday. At least, not in cities where one would get the most for them. Some of the more well-off pirate crews had a skilled merchant aboard, good enough with blades but even better with bartering. They knew precicely where to take those pearls, or the necklace which looked suspiciously like it belonged to a Duchess. No one dealing in these trades after midnight cared, nor asked.
