Intense dust storms or sandstorms caused by downflow from a collapsing thunderstorm are often known as a haboob. Customarily used in Sudan, the term has been put into general use by many forecasters and weather agencies globally (and on Mars).

Warm sand and red dirt, pulled up off the surface in dry winds.
