Without formal or even polite greeting, as was his way, Zeus walked into the forge where Hephaistos was working. "There is something else which I need made", he spoke loudly. Setting down his tools, and at this point wary of the objective in these demands, he quietly waited for the other god to continue. "A closed container of some fashion, perhaps a large pithos. This is to be of fine metal, intricate in design yet solidly built, large inside but light enough for a man to carry. Importantly, it must have a lid which keeps the contents secure, even air." Well, this did not seem too bad, thought Hephaistos. He knew better, especially after the last strange task entrusted to him in this manner. In a day, the container was finished, complete with carvings all around and a lid which could open with hinges, kept secure with a simple latch. The king of the gods returned and nodded appreciation at the fine work, picked up this container, and started out the door. Hephaistos quickly asked, "What is this for?" Zeus smiled slightly, slowly. "Only a small gift for the mortal woman you created."
